Ohio Family Law and Bankruptcy Lawyer
At the law offices of James E. Brightbill, in Akron, we focus on results, not on conflict. Our goal is always to resolve your legal problems as quickly and cost-effectively as possible. Though we are always prepared to take your case to trial, we will explore a negotiated settlement, if doing so is in your best interests. Contact our offices to schedule an appointment.
- Divorce and dissolution: We work with individuals at all phases of a divorce proceeding. We handle all matters arising out of a divorce, including child custody and visitation, child support, spousal support or alimony, and the division of debts and assets.
- Child custody and visitation: We will help you establish and implement custody and visitation arrangements that are in the best interests of your children while protecting your rights as a parent. We will examine all custody and parenting time proposals to ensure that they consider the health, education and social needs of your children.
- Child support and alimony: In Ohio, child support is determined by identifying the income of both parents and applying a formula found in the child support guidelines. We will make certain that support is correctly calculated and that all income is fairly considered. We will also help you determine if spousal support or alimony is warranted and, if so, the appropriate amount, frequency and duration of payments.
- Chapter 7 bankruptcy: Chapter 7 bankruptcy, also known as liquidation, allows qualifying individuals to discharge certain debts in exchange for the liquidation, or sale, of their assets. Most debts — including credit card debt, personal loans, medical bills and past-due utilities — can be discharged. We will determine if you qualify to file under Chapter 7 bankruptcy and will help protect your assets.
- Chapter 13 bankruptcy: Chapter 13 bankruptcy is ideal for people who are not able to pay all their debts right now, but think they may be able to repay some debt in the next three to five years. We can help you restructure your debts, creating a payment plan that allows you to keep most assets. If you follow your repayment plan carefully, any remaining debt will be discharged at the end of the plan.
